About the 2021 Virtual VEuPathDB Workshop

The VEuPathDB workshop is a 4-day thorough and intensive introduction to database resources that are part of the VEuPathDB Bioinformatics Resource Center. It is centered on determining what is — and isn't — working for you, the end-user. Our goal is to maintain a fruitful and ongoing conversation between the developers and the biologists to obtain more efficient, effective ways to help you reach your goals. We hope this experience is as beneficial for you as it is for us, and we look forward to learning together.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will be hosting the workshop virtually for 4 or 5 hours per day from June 7 to June 10, 2021. Time of day to be determined.

Please read this page carefully to determine if this workshop would benefit your research group or your institution's parasite, host, vector or fungal research objectives.

Who should apply: The ideal candidate has a need to become an expert user of one or more of these database resources and presumably has a bioinformatics research problem to work on while attending the course. Preference will be given to applicants who are willing and able to transfer their newly acquired knowledge to others at their home institutions. Evaluation of the applications will focus heavily on the responses to the questions asked on the application page and on letters of recommendation.

Databases covered: AmoebaDB, CryptoDB, FungiDB, GiardiaDB, HostDB, MicrosporidiaDB, OrthoMCL, PiroplasmaDB, PlasmoDB, ToxoDB, TrichDB, TriTrypDB, VEuPathDB, VectorBase.

Costs and Fees: The course is free. The 2021 workshop will be held virtually (online) and therefore participants do not need to pay for any travel or housing.

When: The course will encompass half-days (4 or 5 hours per day) on June 7 - June 10, 2021. Time of day to be determined.

Application deadline: April 30, 2021. (registration is closed)

Acceptance notification by: May 15, 2021

Number of course participants: This course is limited to 30 participants.

Computer/Network Access Required for Participation: Participants will need to have access to an internet connection and a computer. You should also have speakers and a microphone. A headset provides the best audio but in-computer microphones are acceptable.
